Library Organizations
Most librarians agree that one function of a research library is to
archive its collection so that materials will be available for years
to come. The library organizations listed below are dedicated to
the preservation of library and archive materials in Latin American
research institutions.
- International Organizations:
- Consejo Internacional
de Archivos: Promotes and furthers the aims of archives
internationally.
- IFLA
Conservation Section: A subcommittee of the International
Federation of Library Associations, formed to promote awareness of
preservation needs in libraries throughout the world.
- IFLA Core Programme for
the Advancement of Librarianship in the Third World: The goal of
this subcommitte of the IFLA, which encompasses conservation and
preservation, is to "further the profession in less developed
countries."
