Subject: Edge photocopiers
Several months ago UW-Madison set out to compare the edge photocopiers which are available to us in our region (the far Northern Midwest) for public service use. Oce photocopiers are not available in this region as yet (unless we buy at least 85). We compared Selectec (which is a modified Mita DC-3255 copier and Xerox 5042 (a modified xerox machine which is no longer marketed by Xerox in an unmodified form). We *tested* these out in public areas in the undergraduate library and in the research library for a month. The Selectec 1707: very slow, bulk paper tray, two- sided copy capability, better surface for very large books, one-to-one copying (no reduction) at 11x17, capable of conversion to foot pedal operation for inhouse work, good local company handles maintenance contract. Good public acceptance. Xerox 5042: faster, small paper supply tray, difficult to copy two-sided, poor surface for large bound materials, reduces print at 11x17. Good company maintenance. Good public acceptance (but maybe Mita was less intimidating to users?). We will probably go with Selectec for public use and some inhouse use as well, because of local maintenance contract issues and the bulk loader. There is also the Selectec 1603 (Mita 2105). I don*t know how it differs from the 1707 in performance. But, neither machine (Selectec or Xerox) really rang our bells. Does anyone have experience with the Oce? Does anyone really care? *** Conservation DistList Instance 2:19 Distributed: Saturday, May 20, 1989 Message Id: cdl-2-19-001 ***Received on Friday, 19 May, 1989
