Subject: Preserving laser printing
Perhaps of interest to those on your conservation net -- Copied from MacWeek 12/18/90: "No toner is forever, but avoiding vinyl can help it last" Keeping important documents around for years or decades can be a little tricky. You should always use pH-neutral paper stock for archival printing and store the documents in a cool, dry place away from light and bugs. And one more thing: If the documents were printed on a Hewlett-Packard or Apple laser printer, don't store them with vinyl binders or notebooks. Vinyl reacts with the styrene plastic in the toner and breaks it down over time.
