For the past three years Brian Baird has supervised the night shift in Brigh am Young University's Book Repair Unit. This experience allowed him to develop a broad range of practical skills relating to the repair of books from a research library's circulating collection, including: paper repair; case binding; resewing; rebacking; pamphlet binding; split board binding; phase box and clam shell box making; board tacketting; the sorting of materials for appropriate treatments; the training and supervision of technicians; the ordering of materials; and methods for integrating book repair into a research library's operations. He holds an MLS degree from an accredited library school, and is qualified to set up and run a quality book repair operation. Brian will be attending the annual AIC meeting in Albuquerque from Tuesday, June 4th thru Saturday, June 8th if you'd like to meet with him and see some ex amples of his work.
