Subject: Library Binding Discussion Group program at ALA meeting in Atlanta
The Library Binding Discussion Group will meet on Saturday June 29th from 2:00- 4:00 pm. The place: Georgia World Conference Center Room 265W. Our program will include a short (15 min) videotape on the new Ultrabind double fan adhesive binding machine being developed by Mekatronics. The prototype is now being tested. The machine promises to improve the quality of fan binding and take a great deal of the labor out of the process. The major topic of the meeting will be paper testing. Mr Roger Van Eperen, Technical Specialist in the Research Services Division of the Institute of Paper Science and Technology, will discuss mechanical specifications for paper used in endsheets and textblocks, with specific discussion of the ability of mechanical tests to predict the performance of papers in actual use over long periods of time. There will be ample time for questions and discussion. Other discussion topics are welcome, time allowing. Please email or call me by June 25th with ideas.
