Subject: Identadisc
Has anybody heard of or had experience with something called an Identadisc? It's a device used for marking CDs and apparently consists of a cam-actuated pressure plate and a die engraved with the desired information. The CD is held in place on the pressure plate by a spindle in the center of the plate, and when the cam is flipped, the die is pushed into the surface of the CD, leaving an embossed indentification mark. Pressure is exerted only in the center of the CD. The cost is somewhere around a hundred bucks for the "heavy_duty" model which supposedly will emboss up to 2500 discs. Our music librarian had heard of this device and wanted to see what experience anyone had had with it. We'd appreciate any information about this or any other systems people have come up with for marking discs. At present, she is using polyester marking pens purchased from Conservation Resources. They work well, but take time and are presumably not the safest way to approach this. Thanks again for your help.
