Subject: Internship at Cornell
Six Month Internship in Preservation and Conservation Available. Cornell University Library has been funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to undertake a three year program of consultancy, technical training, and education. The program is intended to serve all types of libraries and staff through the provision of technical and professional resources. In addition to offering three workshops and three consultancies per year, the Cornell University Library Department of Preservation and Conservation will provide a valuable and stimulating environment for technical and professional training through internship. One internship of six months for each of three years is available to staff from institutions dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of preservation programs. Under the general supervision of the Director of the Department, the intern will work in each of the seven preservation/conservation units, will carry out a substantial preservation project, attend staff and other pertinent meetings, and participate in workshops and other training programs. The exact nature and schedule of training is designed to accommodate individual and institutional needs, and takes into account prior experience and training. No fee or tuition is required, and a stipend of no less for $13,000 for the six moth period is available. The Andrew W. Mellon grant has enabled the University to share its facilities and expertise with other institutions at little or no cost to them. In combination with other national, state, regional, and local efforts, the program will help to save irreplaceable library and archive materials from damage and deterioration.
