Fog machines

In reply to the query about fog and smoke, there are two somewhat
helpful articles in Art Hazards News 1990 vol.13 no. 10-11 entitled "Fog
and Smoke" by Michael McCann, PhD., C.I.H. The first article suggests,
among other things, to obtain a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) on
all smoke and fog products. In particular note whether the Reactivity
section lists any hazardous decomposition products. Fog and smoke
effects are created by generating a fine mist or an actual smoke by
burning organic materials and some off the chemicals used are toxic to
humans not to mention books! McCann suggests limiting the length of
exposure, i.e. how many takes and exhausting the smoke with portable
ventilators in inclosed areas between takes. The second articles
discusses specific products and their hazards. Although these articles
are geared towards human safety rather than bibliographic safety, some
off the information is usable.
