Labels

As a time-saving and production boosting step, the Cataloging unit of
the Yale Library has suggested no writing the call number on the verso
of the title page. They would instead like to use a spine label making
machine from NOTIS. This machine would print two labels, one to placed
on the spine and the other to be placed on the verso of the title page.
- This is getting into dangerous territory now.

Many questions have arisen from this suggestion. What is the
composition of the labels? What adhesive is used? Can the machine
produce labels on different stocks, as the stock for spine labels would
be too heavy to paste on the verso of the t.p.? Does anyone have any
knowledge of this machine and its ability to perform? Are other
cataloging units pencilling in the call number on the verso of the t.p.?
Thanks.
