Time capsules

coincidental to the recent query about time capsules, i saw another
blurb about them which might be of interest.  the recent issue of
_history news_ (nov/dec 1992 vol. 47, no. 6) includes a technical
leaflet titled "the time capsule: repository of the past or romantic
notion."  the author of the article is helen fraser, retired associate
director of naper settlement, a museum village in naperville, illinois.
she introduces the topic with mention of the "buried treasure syndrome"
and is otherwise not terribly supportive of the whole notion. she writes
from her own experience and observation, but she does give an overview
of the most common containers and other issues such as sealants and
selection of capsule containers.
