Subject: Elvace
The notice in the latest issue of the AIC Newsletter claiming that Elvace 40705 is no longer available from Reichold, the manufacturer, is wrong. TALAS is *not* only source and one is quite tempted to wonder who started this particular rumor. The following note in the WAAC Newsletter still holds true: For some time now, book conservators have reported difficulty obtaining Elvace 1875, a popular Vinyl Acetate-Ethylene Copolymer. Fortunately, Reichold reports that you can purchase Elvace(r) 40705-00 directly from Reichold, even in 5 gallon quantities. For quantities less than 55 gallons, the price is $2.705 per wet pound. You will need to pay for shipping. 5 gallon quantities ship via UPS. In addition, fans of 1874 will be pleased with this news from Pam Barrios who got a call from Dave Stackowitz at Reichold [He] said that the old Elvace 1874 was in fact still being manufactured as Elvace 40704 in small quantities, and that I could get it from Dick Boyd at Swift Adhesives in Downers Grove, IL. The telephone number is 1-800-323-9051. *** Conservation DistList Instance 6:29 Distributed: Thursday, November 26, 1992 Message Id: cdl-6-29-002 ***Received on Thursday, 26 November, 1992
