Subject: Disaster recovery boxes
A suggestion for Mr. Wim Smit regarding his request for information about packing materials for "thoroughly wet books": a new product, specially designed to handle packing of wet books and paper is available from ProText, Inc. 3515 Leland St. Bethesda, MD 20815 301-718-1659 Fax: 301-654-6153 Linda Nainis, formerly a librarian at Georgetown U. Law Library, has developed a product she calls Rescube. These boxes are made of corrugated polyethylene, are collapsible and re-useable. Some boxes being sold for disaster recovery, made of polypropylene, have a low impact strength when subjected to temperatures required for vacuum freeze-drying and are likely to crack. The Rescube is designed to be used to transport materials to freezers or vacuum freeze-dryers and back to your library. We have purchased some and are planning to use these in combination with freezer paper or "butcher's wrap" to pack out any water damaged books in the event of a disaster. Hope this is helpful, Annette Morris Preservation Librarian Georgetown University Law Library *** Conservation DistList Instance 6:44 Distributed: Friday, February 12, 1993 Message Id: cdl-6-44-005 ***Received on Thursday, 11 February, 1993
