To be filled as of July 1, 1993

Responsibilities in the area of preservation:

Planning, development and maintenance of a preservation program for
the Burke Library, including participation in the ATLA Preservation
     Program

Monitoring of condition of stacks areas

Identification of materials for treatment or filming

Assisting the Director and development office in applying for
     preservation/conservation grants

Developing limited in-house conservation capability and assisting in
     conservation projects

Overseeing binding and processing of new materials and of shelving
     and storage of materials

     Management of budgets for preservation

Additional duties (approximately half-time) will include
responsibilities in two of the following areas:

Collection development (coordination of collecting activities and
     monitoring of acquisitions budget)

Archives and rare books (reference correspondence; STC and similar
     verifications)

     Public services (general reference coverage)

Candidates for this entry-level position should be graduate professional
librarians with specific training in preservation/conservation. Some
experience of theological studies is desirable, as is knowledge of such
languages as Greek, Hebrew, Latin, German, French and/or Spanish.
Because of the range of possibilities for the duties in addition to
preservation, details of the job description beyond the basic commitment
in preservation/conservation will be arranged in consultation with other
professional staff members before final appointment.

Good benefits. Salary negotiable; base compensation for professional
librarian is $30,000.

The Burke Library is a distinguished research and professional library
in the field of theological studies with fine collections and all the
challenges that are faced by large older libraries. This position
offers opportunities for rich experience and professional growth.

Application before April 1 is encouraged. It is anticipated that the
appointment will be announced on or before June 1.
