"Electronic Technologies: New Options for Preservation" will be held as a preconference to ALA on Thursday, June 14, 1993. The preconference will explore current applications of electronic reformatting technologies to library materials, to preserve their informational content and make such materials more accessible. The centerpiece of the day will be a series of presentations about current efforts to reformat materials ranging from music scores to text, architectural drawings to photographs. The program will also feature presentations on selection and collection management issues, technological options and limitations, standards, intellectual control, and copyright. The program is: Introduction by Ross Atkinson (Cornell University) Technological Options by Don Waters (Yale University) Case Studies of selected projects, including breakout sessions: National Geographic Society (photographs), by Maura Mulvihill and Stokes Imaging Service Avery Aviador Project (architectural drawings), by Angela Giral at Columbia University Cornell/USC/Kodak Photo CD project, by Tom Hickerson at Cornell Yale University's project to digitize from microfilm, by Don Waters Pennsylvania State University's project to scan archives, by Lydia Suzanne Kellerman University of Tennessee's project to scan music scores, by Tamara Miller Standards presentation by Marilyn Courtot (AIIM) Intellectual Control by Nancy Elkington (RLG) Copyright by Robert Oakley (Georgetown University) Concluding Remarks by Carolyn Morrow (Harvard University) The preconference will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. Registration is $95 for ALCTS members, $120 for ALA personal members, or $170 for non-ALA members.
