Subject: Humidification
In response to Milan Hughston's question about flattening early 20th century newspapers, I believe these are excellent candidates for the plastic trash can method of humidification (relatively insoluble ink, relatively absorbent paper). For details contact NEDCC for our handout on humidification. A penurious historical society, presumably lacking climate controls, might also attempt unfolding during a lengthy period of humid weather, when the papers may relax just enough to be cooperative.
