Subject: Getty email system
Some time ago I provided some instructions for sending mail to people on the Getty Conservation Institute's email service (GEMDES). A new address format has been announced. Most of you use this form: /c=ca/admd=telecom.canada/o=gemdes/ddt=id/ddv=GEMDESID/ [at] gemdes__carleton__ca But some of you may need to do this: @gemdes.carleton.ca:/c=ca/admd=telecom.canada/o=gemdes/ddt=id/ddv=GEMDESID where "GEMDESID" is the recipients Gemdes User ID. (for both, the whole thing must be on one line, and for some of you, the "/" may cause some confusion and you will have to 'escape' them (eg, for unix users using csh, you would put a "\" before each "/") Please remember to get your recipient's permission before sending them significant quantities of mail, because they pay exorbitant fees to read mail. GCI also announced that they are testing an Internet connection to the CHIN databases (ie GCI members will be able to connect to the CHIN databases via the Internet, avoiding Tymnet, Datapac, etc.). They also announced that a new mail system, called Express, will replace GEMDES Real Soon Now. There was no mention of whether or not the fee structure will change (one can only hope) w *** Conservation DistList Instance 6:56 Distributed: Wednesday, April 28, 1993 Message Id: cdl-6-56-001 ***Received on Sunday, 25 April, 1993
