The Preservation Intensive Institute An NEH Supported Opportunity for Advanced Education in Library and Archival Preservation August 1-6, 1993 Participants in many national preservation forums have expressed concern over the lack of advanced level continuing education in our field. The PI Institute has been created to fill this need. The deans and preservation faculty of five schools of library and information science, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, have collaborated to begin a series of annual workshops to offer advanced education in library and archival preservation. The PI Institute advisory committee, which includes Sally Buchanan, Michele Cloonan, Carolyn Harris, Jan Paris, and Andrea Rolich, encourages career professionals in library and archival preservation to attend this year's program. The PI Institute curriculum has been designed for preservation administrators and educators, conservators, archivists, and other professionals responsible for preservation activities. Courses for the first PI Institute are: Preservation of Electronic Formats Science Serving Preservation Bookbinding and the Arts and Craft Movement Each course will meet for the duration of the Institute, allowing for an in depth look at specific preservation issues. The deadline for registration and housing reservations is July 16, 1993.
