Subject: Light exposure to framed items
Having very little storage space for framed items, the walls of staff member's offices are used to hang and store oil paintings, prints, and antique maps. Several offices have a single window that face either north or east. I am concerned about the effect of daylight (which is not direct sunlight) on these items. Framed items are hanging on both opposite and adjacent walls to the windows. The windows have blinds, but they are always left open. The offices are also lighted with uv coated fluorescent lights. We all know that light is bad for these items, but we cannot avoid light exposure altogether. I need documentation to make a case for moving these items possibly to inside walls without windows. Can anyone help? Or would the light exposure on these items be considered too weak to worry about? Also, there is an oil painting hanging right over the photocopy machine. I would like to receive comments about that situation. Thank you.
