Subject: Container for Sumerian tablet
An easy way to house your Sumerian tablet is to take a ready made acid-free box and cut a piece of one or two inch polyethylene foam to fit. Then cut out a well to fit the tablet and line it with something smooth, washed unbleached cotton muslin or Tyvek or acid-free tissue. You don't say what type of paperwork you want to keep with the object. If it is small enough (a tag or some such) you can tape a Mylar window on the top or side of the box with Scotch Brand Double-sided tape No. 415. The main concern with an object like this is to avoid abrasion and give good physical support. Hope this helps Jessica Johnson Materials Conservation Laboratory Texas Memorial Museum 10100 Burnet Rd.
