Subject: Wax seals
We have in our collections a number of 17th and 18th century documents with huge pendant wax seals. Hey, wax gets old, too, and we're concerned about further physical deterioration...chipping, cracking, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for how best to manage this? Are there any particular considerations for wax preservation? Among other difficulties, they're large seals (12 cm or more) and many are attached to large documents, so boxing or other close packaging isn't the easiest...
