Subject: AIC Code of Ethics revision
Suggested Revisions to Draft of 5/93 PREAMBLE Revised 1st paragraph: The preservation of cultural property is the primary goal of the conservation profession. Cultural property consists of objects or collections that have inherent artistic, historic, natural, religious, scientific, or social value. Value as cultural property may lie in individual objects or in aggregate collections, and cultural property has varying combinations of aesthetic, documentary, and functional values. added second paragraph: Cultural property constitutes an invaluable and irreplaceable legacy to future generations, who cannot speak for themselves. Conservation professionals are thus obligated to provide as broad a range as feasible of options for future generations to have access to, to enjoy, to appreciate, and to benefit from this legacy. (third paragraph as is) (add after section 27) [xx]. Aggregate collections: For cultural property that is treated in mass or as aggregates, for which individual photographs and examination and treatment records are not feasible, as for example many library and archives materials, conservation professionals should prepare and maintain generalized or group treatment plans and documentation.
