Subject: Impact of recon on preservation operations
While I was in library school I did a study of the circulation records on a specific collection in the library. The study showed that the use of the collection dramatically increased as the collection was put into the online catalog. Thus older materials were being used more, and damaged. These damaged materials were mostly late 1800 early 1900 materials--the kind of materials most costly and time consuming for preservation departments to deal with. But heck, its great for access.
