Subject: WAAC Newsletter available in Conservation OnLine
I am thrilled to announce that an important new resource has been added to Conservation OnLine (CoOL): full text of the WAAC Newsletter (ISSN 1052-0066) is now available online in the database cool-waac. Published since 1979 by the Western Association for Art Conservation, WAAC Newsletter publishes ideas, information, news, and other material pertaining to the conservation of cultural property, especially matters of interest to conservators in the western United States. As many of you know, the Newsletter of the has in recent years become one of the most consistently interesting and useful publications in our field, and electronic access will make it a uniquely valuable resource. Despite its name, WAAC publishes material on a wide variety of subjects, including areas not ordinarily considered "art" conservation (natural history, ethnography, etc.) At this time, volumes 9-18 have been mounted and all new numbers will be mounted as they are issued. Eventually cool-waac will contain almost all articles, columns, etc. for the complete serial run, except for a few items judged by the editor to be ephemeral or of trivial usefulness. Graphics have been left out for the time being, but will be added when I've determined the most effective way to deliver graphic materials in the WAIS environment. I would like to thank the editor, Liz Welsh, for the tireless effort she has put forth to get this material prepared for CoOL, from championing this project before the WAAC board to correcting and formatting the unbelievably error-filled OCRed text. If anyone has been sleeping in class, the CoOL documentation can be had by sending a note to waiscool [at] aldus__stanford__edu.
