Subject: Survey of computer use: summary
A survey form to collect data about computer use among conservators was distributed to Cons DistList members on March 24, 1993. By the survey deadline of April 20, 1993, eight members had responded (four by email, four by U.S. Mail). Though a sample this size cannot hope to represent the conservation field as a whole, the responses nonetheless have anecdotal interest, and they do offer a convenient opportunity to compare your computer resources with those at several other sites. Some highlights from the responses: One participant has offered to share her institution's "home- grown" collection-survey software with other institutions. Four (possibly five) of the eight participants are already using software to manage conservation work flow. Of these, three are developing additional software for that purpose. Two participants added extensive comments about their site. The most-often requested software features on the "wish lists" of the participants were (1) ability to interact with the online catalog (including via barcode scanning), and (2) ease of use. An email copy of the full survey results is available on request from Roy_Lipscomb [at] cpsnet2__cps__edu, or from Conservation OnLine. Much thanks to each of the participants!
