The following preservation administration internship is available at New York University, Bobst Library. The ten-month internship will extend from September 1st, 1993 through June 30th, 1994. New York State Preservation Administration Intern Description: This is a temporary ten-month professional position funded by a grant from the New York State Program for the Conservation and Preservation of Library Research Materials. The intern will report to the Head of the Preservation Department. Responsibilities will include surveying the condition of a library collection, assessing current preservation procedures and needs, assisting in the preparation of grant proposals, and other appropriate special projects. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in planning sessions, policy discussions, and other library-wide preservation activities. New York University Libraries: Library facilities at New York University serve the school's 50,000 students and faculty and contain more than 3 million volumes. New York University is a member of the Research Libraries Group and serves as the administrative headquarters of the Research Library Association of South Manhattan, a consortium which includes three academic institutions in Greenwich Village. NYU's preservation department supports a wide array of program activities, including commercial binding, conservation, preservation microfilming, staff and user education, disaster preparedness, environmental monitoring, and state and federal grant-funded projects for preservation. Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited MLS, knowledge of preservation and conservation practices and techniques, as demonstrated through previous relevant experience in a research or academic institution and/or successful completion of a formal program/classes in the preservation of research library materials.
