Subject: Appointments at Yale
I am pleased to announce two recent appointments in the Preservation Department of Yale University Library. Alexis Hagadorn fills the newly-created position of Collections Conservator. In her new position, Alexis will be responsible for developing and managing a Collections Care Program to provide for the repair and maintenance of circulating collections in the Sterling Memorial Library complex, and, eventually, for training conservation technicians to undertake this work in other Library units. Alexis will also spend significant time in the Conservation Studio undertaking high-level treatments on materials from the Yale's Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Alexis is a 1989 graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and English. She holds a Master of Science degree with a Certificate in Library and Archival Conservation from Columbia University's School of Library Service. Alexis recently completed a nine-month internship in the conservation laboratories of Trinity College Library in Dublin, Ireland, where she performed conservation treatments on items from the Early Printed Books and Manuscripts Collections. For two years prior to beginning her graduate work, Alexis managed an in-house book repair department at the Barnard College Library. Winston Atkins has been appointed to the position of Preservation Librarian. Since February, Winston has been Yale's Andrew Mellon Intern in Preservation Administration. Prior to coming to Yale, Winston was an intern for two years at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center in Austin, Texas. From 1987 to 1990, Winston was, successively, Librarian and Editor of Publications for the San Jacinto Museum of History Association in Houston. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Science in Library Science from UNC in 1982. He is currently a doctoral candidate in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Texas at Austin. Among his many duties as Preservation Librarian, Winston Atkins will manage the activities of the Department's Core Program, which is responsible for the ensuring the preservation of Yale's circulating collections. In this capacity, he will supervise the operations of the Microfilm Laboratory, oversee the preparation of new preservation selection and decision- making guidelines for the Library, and develop new grant-funded preservation initiatives. *** Conservation DistList Instance 7:27 Distributed: Thursday, September 23, 1993 Message Id: cdl-7-27-004 ***Received on Wednesday, 22 September, 1993
