Subject: MCN conference
Users of on-line services may be interested in a pre-conference workshop which was not mentioned in the MCN (Museum Computer Network) Conference announcement (although it is described in the latest issue of Spectra). There will be an introductory training session in the use of the Conservation Information Network on November 3rd. (CIN is a coordinated effort among several institutions in the conservation field and offers access to a number of bibliographic and technical databases.) There is no charge for the training session and participants don't need to be subscribers to the service. All participants who are, or become subscribers will receive a two hour database usage credit. The number of participants is limited and applications may be addressed to CHIN Client Services at tel (613) 992-3333, fax (613) 952-2318 or Internet address (hold on to your hats), /c=ca/admd=telecom.canada/o=gemdes/ddt=id/ddv=CINC.USER/ [at] gemdes__carlton__ca (to be written on a single line without any spaces). For the sake of interest, in case you've ever read anything about the X.400 email address system, the domain name (the stuff to the right of the @) is a straightforward Internet host address. The user name (to the left of the @) is an X.400 address. If you have direct access to the Envoy100 system you may write directly to CINC.USER. (I can also forward mail to them for you if using the X.400 gateway seems too daunting.)
