Disaster planning lecture

From: Maureen Carey <mcarey>
Date: Friday, October 15, 1993
Judith Fortson, a nationally known authority on disaster planning, will
give the next lecture in an ongoing series sponsored by the Monterey Bay
Conservation Group. Ms.Fortson is a head librarian at Stanford's Hoover
Institute and author of Disaster Planning and Recovery: A How-To for
Librarians and Archivists.

Her talk, entitled "Before and After: Disaster Preparedness and
response" will focus on both aspects of an emergency situation: how to
safeguard a collection before a disaster strikes, and what to do
afterward. She will discuss how to survey a facility, evaluate a
collection and generate a disaster plan. She will also talk about
mobilizing staff in the event of a disaster, moving objects to a new
work area and treatment options for damaged books and papers.
