Subject: Disaster planning lecture
Judith Fortson, a nationally known authority on disaster planning, will give the next lecture in an ongoing series sponsored by the Monterey Bay Conservation Group. Ms.Fortson is a head librarian at Stanford's Hoover Institute and author of Disaster Planning and Recovery: A How-To for Librarians and Archivists. Her talk, entitled "Before and After: Disaster Preparedness and response" will focus on both aspects of an emergency situation: how to safeguard a collection before a disaster strikes, and what to do afterward. She will discuss how to survey a facility, evaluate a collection and generate a disaster plan. She will also talk about mobilizing staff in the event of a disaster, moving objects to a new work area and treatment options for damaged books and papers.
