Subject: Specifications for storage vault
The Canadian Council of Archives is funding a project to design a generic storage vault capable of maintaining low humidity levels (20-30) and temperature levels (5-10) for storage of paper, film or audio visual materials. The objective is to produce a manual to enable smaller institutions to adapt the generic vault to their needs. I am asking for help or comments in gathering background material for the engineer contracted to complete the project: Suggestions for developing the envelope (building components, sealants, vapour barrier options, insulation systems, moisture barrier configurations) of the vault Experiences with relevant HVAC systems, desiccant dehumidification systems, compressed air systems, MCG system, passive systems, filtering needs, monitoring systems etc. Comments about the number of air changes per day required will be welcome.
