Subject: Resource manual on collection conservation treatment
Information regarding Collection Conservation Treatment: a resource manual for program development and conservation technician training. This 450+ page looseleaf compilation of general collection treatment instructions and supporting management information was prepared as part of the April 1992 Training the Trainers conference at Berkeley, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Collection Conservation Treatment includes treatment instructions from some of the country's major conservation programs, as well as information on laboratory management and treatment decision making. Multiple versions of similar treatments are documented, often illustrated, demonstrating the kinds of variations possible under different circumstances. The Training the Trainers conference gathered 42 of the nation's foremost collection conservators and preservation administrators together to plan for regional training of collection conservation technicians. This planning is well underway in several regions; where funding is available training has begun, and where funding is being sought training may begin as soon as the summer of 1994. These regional training programs will be using Collection Conservation Treatment as their basic text. The manual is available for $25.00 from the Publications Department, Office of Management Services, Association of Research Libraries, 21 Dupont Circle, Washington, DC 20036.
