Subject: Access to Conservation OnLine
The software that drives Conservation OnLine (CoOL) has been upgraded and you should see improved precision and recall in your searches. But please bear with us as we test the new software; you may experience delays and disconnections once in a while. If you do, just try again in a few minutes. If you notice problems (e.g. your search returns odd results, or you can't figure out why you got what you got, please send a note to waiscool [at] aldus__stanford__edu explaining the problem). For those of you accustomed to using the public wais client at quake.think.com and have experienced trouble in the last week or so, the problems were caused by Thinking Machines moving their operation, and everything has settled down to normal again. There are at least two other public wais clients you can use, by telnet: telnet wais.com (192.216.46.98), login as wais or telnet sunsite.unc.edu, login as swais In either case, be sure to answer "vt100" when you're asked for your terminal type (if you can't emulate a vt100, you probably won't have much fun in swais). sunsite is a little out of date and doesn't include cool-photohst. wais.com, like quake.think.com, has all the CoOL databases. *** Conservation DistList Instance 7:45 Distributed: Thursday, December 16, 1993 Message Id: cdl-7-45-011 ***Received on Thursday, 16 December, 1993
