Subject: Conservation OnLine moved
Effective immediately, Conservation OnLine (CoOL) is no longer located at aldus.stanford.edu. The new address is palimpsest.stanford.edu Service will be discontinued at the old address, so please start using the new address immediately. (This should be the only move you need to know about; if we move again, it will be 'transparent' to the users). * If you use the publicly accessible SWAIS client at quake.think.com, wais.com, or sunsite.unc.com, everything is already set up and you shouldn't notice any difference. * If you are running your own client, you will need to pick up new src files. The following instructions are for the WAIS for Macintosh client (also known as WAIStation). For other windows/mac clients, the procedure should be similar. Open sources and select cool-directory-of-servers. Click on MacTCP and replace Address with palimpsest.stanford.edu. Close the window's close box, answer YES to "Save changes...?" accepting the suggested file name, and answer YES to "Replace?". Then open Question/New Question, and drag cool-directory-of-servers from the Sources window into the "In these sources" area of the Questions window. Enter "source" in the "Look for documents about" area, and click Run. You should get a list of 10 databases, all beginning with "cool". For each of the 10: Double click to retrieve the .src file Set whatever options you like (eg fonts, max number of files, etc). Click on MacTCP and enter palimpsest.stanford.edu in the Address area, overwriting any numeric (IP) address you find; this will make it easier on you if we move the server again. If your system absolutely chokes on domain names, the IP address is 36.31.0.8, but if we move again, you're on your own...) Click on the window's close box. Answer YES to "Save changes...?" accepting the suggested file name. Answer YES to "Replace?". *** Conservation DistList Instance 7:53 Distributed: Saturday, January 22, 1994 Message Id: cdl-7-53-001 ***Received on Saturday, 22 January, 1994
