Subject: Carved wooden relief
Michael Cogswell might do well to investigate PEG (polyethylene glycol) for his cracking wood carving. PEG is widely used by woodcarvers to mitigate shrinkage in green and partially cured woods. It was used on the preservation of the 17th century Swedish man-of-war Vasa, which sunk in Stockholm harbour minutes after launch. Contact an architectural preservationist for specific information.
