Brooke E. Sheldon, Dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science of the University of Texas at Austin announced today the formation of a committee charged with conducting a search for a Director of GSLIS's Preservation and Conservation Studies program. The Director will succeed Carolyn Harris, who died in January. Preservation and Conservation Studies, formerly of the School of Library Service, Columbia University, is the only full graduate program in the United States for the education of preservation administrators and conservators for libraries, archives, and historical societies. The members of the search committee are Gerald Munoff, Deputy Director, University of Chicago Libraries; James Stroud, Head of Conservation, Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, and Roberta Pilette and Paul Banks, Senior Lecturers in the Preservation and Conservation Studies program. The committee is being chaired by David B. Gracy II, Associate Dean of GSLIS. Pilette and Banks are serving as Acting Co-Directors of the program until a new director is appointed.
