Director of Preservation and Conservation Studies The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Director of Preservation and Conservation Studies. Preservation and Conservation Studies (PCS) is the only full graduate program in the United States for the education of preservation administrators and conservators for libraries, archives, and historical societies. Austin provides a dynamic environment for the program. The local preservation and conservation community includes nationally and internationally recognized private and public archival and library institutions, conservation laboratories, binderies, and editorial offices of preservation publications. The Director will be a recognized leader in preservation administration in libraries and/or archives, demonstrated by a record of publications, professional activities, and other evidences of leadership. The Director has both administrative and teaching responsibilities, reports to the Dean of GSLIS, and serves on relevant GSLIS faculty committees. Specific responsibilities of the Director include: Overall management of the program and its staff, Overseeing the preparation of grant proposals and conducting other development activities, Overseeing operation of PCS facilities, including laboratories and the resource center, Teaching courses in the management of preservation programs, Editing Conservation Administration News, Preparing and administering the budget, Coordinating the Conservation Forums series, other educational programs, and meetings of the Preservation and Conservation Studies Advisory Committee. Requirements are a master's degree in library and information science or a related field and a minimum of five years' experience in managing a preservation program in a library, archives, or historical society. Experience in teaching is highly desirable. Salary is competitive. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on April 15.
