Subject: Use of heat to reverse sticky shed syndrome
I'm interested in identifying journal articles, news notes, lab reports, and other sources (published and unpublished) that pre-date September 1989, describing the following process: Use of heat to restore to playable condition magnetic tape that exhibits "sticky shed syndrome." (Sticky shed is caused by hydrolysis-induced breakdown of the binder layer of magnetic tape, which results in shedding of the magnetic oxide coating layer, and is recognizable as gumminess.) Thanks in advance for whatever pre-September'89 citations you can provide. *** Conservation DistList Instance 7:67 Distributed: Friday, March 25, 1994 Message Id: cdl-7-67-009 ***Received on Wednesday, 23 March, 1994
