Subject: Lecture series at Columbia
The Columbia Rare Book and Manuscript Library is holding a series of informal talks and slide-lectures on Monday evenings at 6.00pm. April 18: Historic Techniques, Modern Solutions: Conserving Special Collections at Columbia Frederick Bearman (previously at the Public Record Office, London, and the Folger Shakespeare Library, Mr. Bearman is Head of Conservation for the Columbia University Libraries). April 25: "All the Pictures Fairest Lin'd": Shakespeare Illustrated Lucy Oakley (Exhibition curator of the art of the nineteenth-century American painter, Edwin Austin Abbey, opening in the Wallach Art Gallery on April 13th. Her concurrent exhibition of published illustrations of Shakespeare's plays will be in the West Gallery of the Rare Book and Manuscript Library through July 11. May 9: New Currents in Map Collecting Richard Lan (Mr. Lan is the owner of Martayan-Lan, Inc. New York. He will talk about the growth of interest in collecting historic maps today and about the current RBML exhibition: The World on Paper: A Celebration of the Mapmaker's Art. Talks will be held in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Butler Library, Sixth Floor and will begin at 6:00 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.
