Subject: Preservation Intensive Institute course added
For the 1994 UCLA Preservation Intensive Institute, an additional course will be offered, to be taught by Beverly P. Lynch. The following is a brief course description: The Politics of Preservation An intensive, interactive seminar for 20 mid-level managers with responsibility for the library's preservation program. The seminar will consider a variety of management issues placed in the context of the organizational environment in which preservation officers work. Most participants will hold the title of Preservation Officer or Assistant Preservation Officer. Participants should have experience in key areas of management including budgeting and the supervision of staff. Topics include * The politics of the library and the organization * The library's vision, the reality of that vision, the placement of preservation in that vision * Strategic planning; its strengths and weaknesses for the Preservation Program * financial management * human resource management Participants will lead course seminars which will investigate their own or other case studies; the emphasis will be on real situations placed in a theoretical framework. Some reading will be required in advance of the seminar.
