Subject: Polyethylene bags
Are ordinary reclosable polyethylene bags, such as the ones sold in grocery stores under the brand name "Zip-Lok", really dangerous to use for storing, say, pamphlets? According to the University Products catalogue, "ordinary plastic bags, vinyl envelopes or pages contain harmful chemical additives that can migrate to paper contents causing accelerated aging, staining and embrittlement. Mylar archival polyester envelopes are completely inert . . . for safe archival storage".
