Subject: RLMS Discussion Group meeting
The Discussion Group of the Reproduction of Library Materials Section (RLMS) of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) of the American Library Association (ALA) will be meeting in Miami Beach, Florida on Sunday, June 26th from 4:30pm to 5:30pm in the Miami Beach Convention Center, Room C225. The topic of discussion will be those potential areas for cooperation between preservation microfilming projects at different institutions. For instance, possible issues for discussion include: lending serials for filming purposes for extended periods of time; the problems that can arise when different institutions are filming materials in the same subject areas; the possibility of dividing up the responsibility for filming serial runs; the issues surrounding the variety in quality control inspection procedures from institution to institution (and the problems that can arise); and the potential for sharing procedural manuals and statistics/tracking forms at use at different institutions; and other topics as they arise. All are invited to attend and to contribute to this discussion. Please come prepared to ask questions, as well as to offer information on how things work back at your institution. Feel free to bring along materials to circulate and to share with other participants. (The RLMS Discussion Group session will be moderated by Lee Dirks, the NEH Preservation Project Coordinator at Columbia University Libraries.)
