Security strips

Our librarian is considering tattle tail tape in the rare book
collection. Has anyone  out there done this?  She has only mentioned
this to the Senior Cataloger but I'd like to have some back up when she
comes to me.  Since what they think I know can't be sucked up in an
eyedropper, all outside opinions are welcome.  Our present security is a
locked and alarmed rare book room.  Thanks for the help
