Assistant Librarian/Conservator Special Collections & Archives Merrill Library Utah State University Logan, Utah Responsibilities: The conservator is responsible for the conservation and restoration of the important items of both monetary and research value in the special collections, federal documents, and general collections of the Libraries of Utah State University. As a professional member of the staff of special collections and archives, the conservator is expected to provide reference service to patrons of the division. The successful candidate is expected to publish or present on an annual basis a paper and to participate in professional and scholarly societies and in such library, learning resources, or university committees and activities as may be assigned. Qualifications: Completion of the MA, MS, MLS, MFA, or substantial work toward completion of a terminal degree in a field central to the duties of the position; experience and training in a library conservation program; knowledge of 18th and 19th century commercial and special bindings and binding techniques; familiarity with cloth, paper, and leather bindings and repair work; paper and fabric backing, box and slip-case construction; demonstrated oral and written communication skills; demonstrated scholarly activity and production; and familiarity with conservation and restoration materials and supply houses. Salary: $24,000 Contract: Faculty status, TIAA/CREF 100% contribution by university, and excellent health benefits package.
