All of the tape that we used at that time has sticky shed syndrome. We are talking with a national organization that is interested in funding a project to dub the thousands of tapes with sticky shed onto fresh analog tape. This funder wants us to hire an outside consultant to sample the condition of the tapes and estimate how much the project will cost. I have a call into the National Media Laboratory in St Paul. But can anyone tell me what other consultants/organizations are expert in magnetic tape deterioration? I'm also interested in what policies other magnetic tape archives have to routinely sample tape condition or dub masters on to fresh tape stock. From the few telephone calls I've made to colleagues, I gather that very few archives have the money to make regular dubs. Thanks for your help!
