Temporary Position Available NEH Project Conservation Technician Harvard University Library A six month full-time position funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access, for the cataloguing and preservation of the Henry Hobson Richardson (1838-1886) archive of 5015 architectural drawings in the Houghton Library. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Harvard College Library Conservator, the Conservation Technician will perform a variety of conservation treatments on a collection of architectural drawings from the H.H. Richardson Archive. The technician works with project staff on written and photographic documentation of conservation procedures. Responsibilities will also include the encapsulation, mounting, and occasional matting of materials, including challenging fragile and/or oversize items. Performs tasks as assigned to support work flow of busy conservation lab engaged in the examination, flattening, cleaning, repairing of architectural drawings. Assists HCL Conservator in adhesive preparation and acquisition of supplies and materials. Qualifications: Bachelor degree preferred with a minimum of 1-2 years experience in a conservation facility. Prior experience in the fundamentals of paper repair and construction of protective enclosures. Good organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work well with others as demonstrated by past work experience.
