Subject: Schott reading lamps
In response Mike Widener's query about a distributor for a Schott cold light source, I have a Schott KL 1500 which I use for my Zeis stereo microscope. It is a stand alone unit with two light tubes, i.e. adjustable flexible shaft tubes, that direct the light in the desired position. They are available through Carl Zeis, Inc., who have a Texas sales rep named Mr. Ingolf Siedler at 214-317-7134. My unit ran about $1000 in 1987, which included the generator box and the dual flexible light guides (each sold separately). Nothing is inexpensive that is associated with microscopes! It does provide wonderful light without heat, using fiber optic technology, as long as the generator box, which holds the halogen light source and cooling fan, is directed away from item, and provided the light guides are long enough (mine are about 30").
