University of Iowa Conservation Department announces a 1995 Mellon sponsored Advanced Book Conservation Workshop: "Lessons and Techniques from the History of Conservation" Tom Conroy - Workshop Leader April 10-14 This workshop will explore some neglected structures and methods from the long history of the care of books. Specific topics will include: * the scientific study of paper deterioration, 1890-1940 * silking and other neglected methods of page repair * account bookbinding * box styles other than clamshell * training and experience of protoconservators of the 30's through the '50s.
