Grain of bookcloth

From: Gregor Trinkaus-Randall <gtrinkaus>
Date: Wednesday, June 7, 1995
Steve Reitci asked about what happens to books with the bookcloth
grain going horizontal rather than vertical. What happens is that
the book covers tend to curl from the top and bottom towards the
center. This may not be dramatic, but it puts excessive strain on
the spine and joints as the forces are against rather than parallel
to the leaf attachment.
