Subject: Nicholas Pickwoad
Nicholas Pickwoad is to resign as Chief Conservator in the University Library and the Harvard College Library at Harvard, effective August 31, 1995. He will continue to consult on the conservation of special collections at Harvard, and with other collections both in the U.S. and in Europe. He will also continue to teach at the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia, at the Centro del Bel Libro in Ascona, and for the Corso Europeo di Formazione Specialistica per Conservatori-Restauri di Beni Libri in Spoleto. He also plans to pursue his longstanding project of writing an account of European bookbinding in the era of the handpress. This will include research in Oxford into the techniques of and materials used by Oxford binders in this period in September and October of this year, on a grant from the Bibliographical Society of Great Britain, together with a Falconer Madan award. He has also applied for a research fellowship from the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbuttel. In addition, he plans to publish his completed research on the Ramey Collection at the Pierpont Morgan Library, a project supported by a grant from the Mellon Foundation.
