Subject: CD-rom longevity
In reference to Rab Jackson's query for a colleague concerning the longevity of CD-ROM's, and concerning the longevity of digital media in general, I think the following article is worth reading: "Ensuring the Longevity of Digital Documents", by Jeff Rothenberg, in the January 1995 issue of _Scientific American_, pp. 42-47. **** Moderator's comments: This article was cited in Cons DistList Instance: 9:9 (and thanks to Luis Nadeau for catching the typo. It was obviously the 1995 issue, not the 1985 issue). But this is a good chance to mention that there are some responses to that article by Jim Wheeler and John W.C. Bogart, in Conservation OnLine. Via WWW you'll find them at http://palimpsest.stanford.edu (there's a link on the welcome page).
