Subject: Dust jackets

If so, could we receive some pointers on how to proceed. Besides the fact that often book jackets contain information about the author and the book that is not present elsewhere, they serve a preservation function. In the "Wellesley Survey" of public libraries, Nancy Schrock found that often public library circulating collections were in better condition than their academic counterparts. Part of this is attributable to the age of the collections, but she mentions also that most public libraries retain the book jackets on the books. This practice has resulted in greater protection to the volumes and less light damage to the covers. Nancy might want to comment on this further since I know she is on the list.
